Galdonia
Warehouse grunt. Purple lightning. A dragon. He falls down a hole and rings the world’s dinner bell
About This World
Opening Premise
You were finishing a shift on a Sydney warehouse roof. Expensive kit you didn’t understand. A wrong feeling. A trip. Mid-air, the sky hit you with lightning that was the wrong colour. You wake in a forest that almost looks like Earth until a distant “bird” breathes fire across a mountain. You have your phone. No signal. A branching scar you didn’t have this morning. You do not have a quest, a status screen, or anyone explaining the rules. This is Galdonia. The safe places are cities behind walls the size of cliffs. Everything else is negotiable. Magic is real. Slavery is legal. Ancient things under the dirt have been asleep longer than anyone’s religion can agree on. You are Taylor Grace. Twenty-five. Fit mouthy warehouse grunt. Not a chosen hero. Not yet a mage. Something in the ground is going to notice you anyway.

GALDONIA STORY BIBLE
lore
## Book One — Locked Foundational Canon **Status:** Locked where marked LOCKED. Do not invent names, factions, companions, or explanations for anything marked TBD or OPEN. **Series:** Galdonia **Book:** One **Protagonist:** Taylor Grace (always Taylor; Grace is his surname) **Use:** Upload to SmutWriter as Story Bible. Chapter briefs override this file for a single chapter only. --- # GENERATOR RULES (always on) - Do not invent cities, kingdoms, races, religions, named companions, or the romantic interest. - Do not give Taylor a HUD, stat screen, levels, XP, or a system voice. - Do not give Taylor a mentor who explains the plot or a divine guide. - Do not make Taylor a trained warrior, mage, or chosen-one speechmaker. - Do not resolve Book One mysteries listed under OPEN CANON. - Do not add a harem or a romance plot in Book One. Taylor can be a flirty idiot. No girlfriend, no sex scene for him unless a later brief explicitly starts one. - Do not depict sexual violence on the page. It may exist as implied background. - Taylor jokes when *he* is scared or hurting. He does not joke about innocent people being enslaved, murdered, or grieving. - Language rule is locked below. Do not give him a translation UI, a language skill menu, or the ability to write Galdonian by magic. - Book One is Taylor-only POV. - If a detail is TBD, leave it unnamed or skip it. Do not fill the gap with generic fantasy stock. **POV / tense:** Third person limited, Taylor only, for all of Book One. Past tense unless the chapter brief says otherwise. **Heat (Book One):** World may be adult. Taylor flirts. No romance arc and no Taylor sex scene unless a brief starts one. **Name rule:** He is Taylor. People may later assume Grace is his first name. That is a joke, not a rename. --- # PREMISE (LOCKED) Taylor Grace is an ordinary 25-year-old from modern Earth. A freak fall from a Sydney warehouse, then impossible blue-purple lightning, drops him into Galdonia — a dark, beautiful, dangerous fantasy world. He has no magic he can use, no language, no map. After a dragon proves he is not on Earth, a bandit tries to rob him. Running for his life, Taylor falls into a hidden ancient ruin and accidentally wakes a system that has slept for thousands of years. The eruption is visible for hundreds of kilometres. Powerful people feel it farther than that. Taylor unlocks a first layer of dormant ancient magic he does not understand. The world starts hunting “the Activator.” Taylor does not know they mean him. --- # TONE (LOCKED) Galdonia is serious, often brutal. It is not joyless grimdark. Beauty, friendship, warmth, humour, and wonder exist beside slavery, monsters, and corrupt power. Taylor is highly unserious when overwhelmed: sarcasm, inappropriate remarks, smartarse deflection. The world around him is not a comedy. Example beat: an ancient authority demands whether he understands what he has done. Taylor says nobody put up a sign. --- # TAYLOR GRACE (LOCKED) **Full name:** Taylor Grace **Age:** 25 **Earth job:** Warehousing / logistics. Dead-end. Not engineer, soldier, historian, or survival instructor. **Body:** Very fit and muscular, low body fat, athletic not bodybuilder. Regular training, skateboarding, rock climbing. By Galdonian standards he is **very attractive**. In Varradine that will get looks from men and women once he is not only “the weirdo in Earth clothes.” **Looks and class (LOCKED):** in Galdonia, the rich and powerful tend to look healthier and better. The poor often have worse skin and an underfed look — nutrition, not a magic caste. Taylor will read as odd (modern clothes) and then as handsome. **What that is good for:** running, climbing, grip, balance, recovering from ugly falls. Not sword fighting. **Skills:** learns fast, notices patterns, situational awareness, social adaptation, performs under pressure, runs his mouth. **Fear that breaks him:** helplessness — especially watching someone suffer when he thinks he should be able to act. This will make him take stupidly dangerous risks later. **Lines:** - Once he accepts responsibility for someone, he will not abandon them just to save himself. - He kills when it is morally required: to save himself or an innocent. - He will not murder someone just for being an asshole. If that person is actually evil or a genuine threat, he is much more willing. - His first deliberate killing of a person must still cost him. He is a warehouse worker, not a killer. - Book One: flirty idiot, not a romance plot. **Arrival kit:** modern clothes and shoes, phone, wallet, keys, pocket junk. Phone works, no signal, cannot place him, battery is finite. Bruised, cut, sore; still mobile. **Lightning scar:** branching scar from temple down neck, chest and arm; another branch down stomach, inside of thigh, to the foot. Looks striking. In Book One it is not treated as meaningful at first — just a weird injury. **Scar + magic (LOCKED):** - When Taylor uses *ancient* magic, the scar glows **blue-purple** (same family as the lightning that hit him). - Panic-magic counts. If the scar lights up, something ancient just happened, even if he doesn’t know he did it. - Ordinary exertion or modern-style accidents do not light it. - He cannot turn the glow off in Book One. - Book Two or later: idle/constant glow as he holds more power; brighter as he gets stronger; he can suppress it on purpose by then. - An ancient prophecy exists about a chosen one with a glowing scar. Book One may hint the story exists. Nobody correctly IDs Taylor as that figure in Book One unless a chapter brief says so. - Separate folklore: people struck by that kind of lightning **do not survive**. Sylvara knows that story. She is shaken when he says that is how he got the scar. She tells him not to repeat it in Varradine. **Voice samples (keep this register):** - “That’s a weird-looking bird.” - “That’s a fucking dragon.” - “Did I take acid?” - “Right. Don’t understand a fucking word you’re saying, but I’m starting to get the general vibe.” - “This has been a really shit couple of days.” --- # LANGUAGE (LOCKED) Taylor’s mind stays English. The magic is a live interpreter around him, not a language pack in his brain. - **Speech, both ways.** He speaks English. Listeners hear their own language. He hears them as English. - **Accent vs register.** The magic gives him a *native-sounding* accent. The *way* he talks is still wrong for Galdonia: modern, casual, slangy. Locals speak more formally, older-fashioned. They understand him and still think he talks like an idiot from nowhere. - **Reading, inbound only.** Their writing appears as English to him. - **Writing does not translate.** Anything he writes stays English on the page. Locals cannot read it. Phone notes, letters, signs he makes — still English. - He cannot magically compose Galdonian script. - No subtitle UI. After the first Awakening it just starts working. He does not know it is a spell at first. - Useful consequence: he can talk to anyone and still be illiterate on paper in their world. --- # TRANSPORT FROM EARTH (LOCKED) Not “fell asleep and woke here.” - Sydney. Warehouse / logistics. He is outside, high up, finishing a job around expensive tech he does not really understand. - A wrong feeling distracts him. He trips and falls. - Mid-air: extraordinary **blue-purple lightning**. Not normal weather lightning. - That strike is the last Earth memory. - Whether the feeling + lightning were an accident is OPEN. Do not answer it in Book One. He wakes in dense Galdonian forest. --- # OPENING SEQUENCE (LOCKED) Book One opens as **two chapters**, not one dump. Cut after the lightsplosion. **Chapter 1 — arrival:** warehouse → lightning → forest → **dragon (this is not Earth)** → bandit → hole → rune → lightsplosion → cave-in → crawls out wrecked. **Chapter 2 — it got worse:** “cannot get worse” → Khalvex → glow-kill → Sylvara → walk toward Varradine (scar / lightning talk; she answers most questions) → walls, siege gear, refugee line. **Chapter 3 — gate + first streets:** registration “Taylor” only → city shock → casual magic / Sense overload → other peoples → slavery in the face once (buy/collars) then they walk away → flare rumours he overhears. **Chapter 4 — temple leak + night:** he accidentally kills a temple spell that is not supposed to be killable → priest loses it → modern-mana test = apprentice → they drop it as a fluke → Sylvara saw a faint scar-glow → inn, food, phone, “this is fucked.” The dragon is in Chapter 1. It is how he knows he left Earth. 1. Sydney warehouse. Expensive tech he does not understand. Finishing up **outside, high up**. A wrong feeling, distraction, trip, fall. 2. Mid-air: unnatural **blue-purple lightning**. Blackout. 3. Wake in dense old-growth forest. “Where on Earth am I?” 4. Distant flying shape. Looks like a weird bird until it breathes fire across a mountainside. **That is how he knows this is not normal Earth.** “That’s a fucking dragon.” / “Did I take acid?” 5. Nameless bandit. Knife. Language is garbage. Taylor: chill the fuck out. Bandit closes. Taylor runs, loses him, now lost among wrong plants. 6. Checks behind — falls down a hole into an ancient ruin. Intricate dormant runes. 7. Touches the central thing. Blue-purple light slams **into him and into the sky**. He vomits, goes dizzy. Ruin starts caving. He calls it a **lightsplosion**. Escapes by the skin of his teeth. 8. Chapter 2 starts: on his back; this cannot get worse. 9. A **Khalvex** over him — giant rhino/spider hybrid, four sharp walking limbs. He should not have said that. It tries to eat him. He rolls, runs, screams like an idiot, trips downhill into thinner trees. 10. It comes again. He covers his face. Scar glows blue-purple. Creature shrieks. Thump. Dead, insides exploded. He did not mean to and does not know he did it. 11. **Sylvara** finds him over the corpse. Hot elf ranger, elite bow. Impressed and suspicious. Taylor: elf ears / hot elf — he thinks she cannot understand. She can: “Yes I am a ‘hot elf.’” Who is he, how did he kill a Khalvex? He denies it. Sydney. She: Galdonia, forest around **Varradine**. She will take him toward the city. No plot-dump. She does not explain ancient magic or the flare. --- # SYLVARA (LOCKED) Female elf. Highly skilled bow-ranger. Visually striking; figure can be described. Mysterious past — hint only, no dump in early chapters. First trustworthy contact. Takes him toward Varradine. Means to split once he is inside. Stays curious because he dresses, talks, and knows nothing like a local. Later (not Ch1): he saves someone; she sees the scar glow in his sleep; she does not just walk off. In the city she reels in his horny-flirty-idiot act (prostitutes / unsavoury types). She can flirt strategically (gate guard) and still roll her eyes when Taylor makes a dumb joke about her doing it. Book One is **not** a romance plot. Banter and attraction only unless a later brief changes that. **Khalvex:** four-limbed rhino/spider predator. Locals would not expect a lost foreigner to drop one. --- # WORLD — GALDONIA (LOCKED FRAME) Separate universe from Earth. Book One stays small: one wilderness, one ruin, one great city. Distant kingdoms stay rumours. Taylor spends Book One figuring out where he is and what just happened — not decoding ancient history. Hints only, very minimal. **Wilderness:** never fully safe. Monsters do not “own” the whole map. Patrolled main roads are safer because things get killed there. Side tracks and deep forest are worse. Caravans still want protection. **Cities:** true safety is in enormous fortified cities — walls, soldiers, mages, enchantments. Different cities can have opposite morals and different magic laws. **Entering a city:** foreigners register. Official fee is about **1 silver**. Sylvara gets Taylor a **temporary registration under “Taylor” only** (no Grace) by flirting up a gate guard. They do not search him. **Scar in public:** the face/neck branch is visible. People may notice. In Book One a Varradine gate guard can eye it and say nothing. Taylor must not volunteer the lightning story in the city — Sylvara warns him on the road. Some religious factions in Varradine would treat a lightning-scarred stranger as sacred/useful and that can go as far as captivity / sex-slave dogma. Taylor first thinks she’s joking. She is not. Do not have him outed by that story in Chapter 3. **First city:** Varradine. Unlicensed magic regulated on a sliding scale. Slavery legal and region-normal. First time inside, Taylor **does** see collars / a sale. That is the one punch. Do not turn the chapter into a slavery tour. He walks away because he cannot win. Sylvara is not a slavery fan; she is realistic. **Temple incident (LOCKED):** in Varradine Taylor accidentally shuts off a temple working that modern magic is not supposed to be able to touch. A priest-mage loses it. Taylor: he didn’t do anything, he can’t even do magic. They test his personal mana. Result: **apprentice-level modern mana.** They decide he could not have done it; fluke. Sylvara thinks she saw a **faint glow** in the scar. She does not tell the priest. Ancient magic stays hidden. **Religion:** several faiths, several readings of ancient sites waking and of whoever wakes them. When Taylor is finally known as the Activator, different groups want him for different reasons — e.g. living god, useful tool, and at least one other motive. Do not name the churches until the author does. **Ugly on the page:** slavery, corpses, executions, monster attacks, poverty, exploitation, political/magical abuse. Not constant torture-porn. Sexual violence implied only. --- # MAGIC (LOCKED) ## Modern magic Structured spell-forms: mana + gestures + symbols/runes + often speech. Combat mage traces a glow, speaks a trigger, throws a shield, bolt, or environmental effect. Bigger effects need more energy, complexity, or prep. Masters skip steps. **Source:** an individual’s own mana. **Detection:** city mages scan for *modern* magic / personal mana. That scan does not see ancient magic. Taylor has a small detectable personal-mana pool at about **apprentice** level. Tests will say he is a weak ordinary caster, not empty and not a monster. That wrong answer is useful. Do not have a temple test reveal ancient magic. **Cost:** physical and neurological exhaustion. Moderate: fatigue, tremor, headache, fog. Severe: bleeding, collapse, blackout. Extreme: permanent injury or death. There is always a body ceiling for modern casting. A trained modern apprentice can still beat early Taylor in a real fight. ## Ancient magic Not “stronger fireball.” Closer to the operating system than the apps. It draws mana/power **from the world**, which is why it can dwarf modern magic and why modern scans miss it. Ruins, objects, runes from a civilisation thousands to tens of thousands of years gone. Modern people often cannot activate them at all. Scholars can study one artifact for generations. Taylor’s magic is ancient, dormant, and invisible to modern tests. A scan of his *personal* mana can still show a weak apprentice-level pool. People will trust that number and ignore what they cannot see. **Taylor’s cost:** - Early Book One: using it is clumsy, so he pays the same exhaustion modern mages do. - Later (not Book One mastery): it becomes more efficient than modern casting and does not tax him the same way. ## Progression (no HUD) Each major site/rune unlocks another layer of what is already inside him. Unlock ≠ skill. He can have a power he cannot aim. Room for failure and spectacular accidents. Guideposts only (not a mandatory list): - First: Awakening — basic sensing/use plus more he hasn’t found. - Later: more conduction/capacity. - Later: perception of structure/flaws. - Later: manipulation of existing magic, not just casting. Every major activation is a flare. Factions notice. Pattern: wherever he goes, old systems wake. Hostile groups may want him as a *physical key*, not a recruit. ## First Awakening — what he has vs what he knows **He notices:** - **Sense** — perceive magic, objects, active effects, concentrations of power. - **Universal Translation** — speech both ways; reading inbound only; his writing stays English. See LANGUAGE. He does not initially know this is a spell. **Already unlocked, not discovered:** other first-layer abilities. Do not name them in the draft unless the author has locked them. **Instinctive / leaky ancient magic:** - Not self-preservation only. - It can protect Taylor, and it can protect people around him if he is emotional enough. - It can also leak as tiny accidents: nudge, snarl, or warp someone else’s spell without him meaning to. - Other mages: “What did you do?” Taylor: “It wasn’t me. I don’t know what you’re on about.” - Scar glows blue-purple when this happens. - Whether the magic has a mind is OPEN. **He cannot yet consciously:** throw major ancient attacks, big shields, teleport, heal severe wounds, rewrite enchantments, break barriers, or trigger the mystery effects on purpose. --- # BOOK ONE SPINE (LOCKED SHAPE) **Start:** Sydney warehouse → lightning → forest → dragon (not Earth) → bandit → ruin → lightsplosion → Khalvex → Sylvara → Varradine. **Catalyst:** first activation; sky-flare; Awakening (translation + sense + hidden extras + leaky instinct). **Middle:** first great city; learn Galdonia in pieces; overhear solemn talk about the Activator; do not clock that it is him; instinctive magic happens anyway; eventually “Oh fuck.” **End (direction, not locked scene):** his identity as Activator is exposed in a late crisis. He can no longer be an anonymous foreigner. Escape / exile / second site / capture: TBD after city and cast exist. --- # FACTION PRESSURE (LOCKED IDEA, NAMES TBD) After the first flare, kings, mages, scholars, faiths, slavers, and elites all want the Activator — to own, study, prophesy, sell, protect, or kill. Most do not know it is Taylor at first. He can stand in a street and hear people discuss the mystery as if he isn’t there. --- # OPEN CANON — DO NOT ANSWER IN BOOK ONE - Exact reason the lightning chose that moment (the feeling is locked; the cause is not) - Why the scar exists / why ancient systems recognise him / why the power was already inside him - Name and fate of the ancient civilisation - Why the power was divided and sealed - How many sites exist / what happens if he opens all of them - Full first-layer ability list - Whether instinctive magic has a mind - Names of the bandit - Full list of churches and their doctrines - Cultures, kingdoms, detailed modern-magic schools - Book Two+ villains --- # TBD CAST (placeholders only) | Role | Status | |---|---| | Bandit | Nameless. Robber. Knife. Taylor flees. | | Sylvara | Locked. Elf ranger, bow, mysterious past. Path into Varradine. Not girlfriend in early book. | | First city | **Varradine** | | Book One romance | None yet. Flirty idiot only. | | Antagonist hunting the Activator | TBD | Do not generate these names. --- # SMUTWRITER CHAPTER BRIEF TEMPLATE Copy per chapter: ``` POV: Taylor, third limited, past tense Place / time: Must happen (beats): Must not happen: Who is on stage: Heat: none / world-adult around him / Taylor involved only if this brief says so Taylor joke allowed?: yes, unless innocents are being destroyed End beat / last image: Canon check: Taylor POV only, no new named cast, no HUD, no plot-dump mentor, no romance plot ``` --- # CHAPTER 1 BRIEF (ready to paste) POV: Taylor, third limited, past tense Place / time: Sydney warehouse, then Galdonian old-growth forest, same arrival day Must happen: - Warehouse, high up, expensive tech he does not get, weird distracting feeling, trip, fall - Mid-air blue-purple lightning, blackout - Wake in thick wrong forest, “where on Earth am I,” wander - Distant two-winged “bird” breathes fire on a mountainside.
